Both can power a good business website. The right choice depends on what you need, not on which is more fashionable.
WordPress: quick and familiar
WordPress is a content management system with thousands of themes and plugins. It is a good fit when:
- You need a simple site or blog quickly and cheaply.
- Your team wants to edit pages visually without a developer.
- A standard plugin already does what you need.
The trade-offs: plugins add weight and security updates, speed depends on how many you stack, and unusual features can become awkward.
Next.js: fast and flexible
Next.js is a modern framework built on React. Sites are written as code, which gives you:
- Speed: pages can be pre-built and served fast, which helps visitors and search rankings.
- Control: custom features, logins, dashboards and integrations are natural, not bolted on.
- Security: fewer moving parts than a plugin-heavy site.
- One codebase for the marketing site and the web app behind it.
The trade-offs: editing content usually needs a developer or a content setup built for you, and the first build costs more.
How to choose
Choose WordPress if you mainly need pages and a blog, your budget is tight, and non-technical staff will edit content daily.
Choose Next.js if speed and SEO matter a lot, you need custom features such as bookings, portals or AI tools, or the site is part of a bigger product.
What about SEO?
Either can rank well. What matters is fast loading, clean structure, good content and structured data. Next.js makes these easy to get right by default; WordPress can match them with care.
Our approach
We build most projects with Next.js, because our clients usually need more than brochure pages: admission systems, portals, dashboards and AI features. If a simple WordPress site is the better answer for you, we will say so. See our website development service or the SEO checklist.
